Kingston holds off on Solid State Drives

At least, not in 2007
Tuesday, 6 February 2007, 12:46
BACK AT CES we wrote a lot about Solid State Drives (SSD). Sandisk wants to get SSD drives out as soon as possible while OCZ is wants to hold its breath with this marchitecture.

We know that Corsair is doing something about SSDs but we asked one of the big ones, Kingston what it thinks about this marchitecture. A company spokesperson said that Kingston expects that Solid State Drives or simply SSD market won't take off until 2008. The competition drives we have seen are at CES very expensive and are based on the first generation SSD marchitecture.

This is not a place where Kingston wants to be right now. The market just isn't big enough. Kingston wants to sell thousands or bigger numbers of them.

Once the market is ready Kingston will have its product. This means 2008 for this big memory company. ยต
