Code Red Worm refuses to turn

Lambton Worm responds
Wed Aug 01 2001, 12:50
THE CODE RED WORM caused little immediate problems last night but the FBI in the shape of one Ron Dick warned things could get worse in days to come.

The FBI and others claimed that the publicity alerted many owners of Web servers to the problem and they acted to download the patch which covered the great big Emmenthalian holes in Microsoft software.

Meanwhile, a US consulting company estimated that the cost of fixing the hole where the rain came in had cost a staggering $1.2 billion.

Computer Economics did not give the billing address where the invoice should be sent, but we believe it to be the Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, USA.

The long toothed will recall that when little happened when the clocks ticked over from 1999 to 2000, industry pundits clapped themselves on the back for the excellent work they'd done fixing things before nothing happened.

Meanwhile, several wags have suggested to the INQUIRER that the Super Virus Zach Gusky wrote about yesterday already exists. And it is called Windows software. (This is a joke, Microsoft, OK?). ยต
