ASUS Eee PC 701 gets reviewed

HW Roundup Looking at a crystal ball for DisplayPort, DTX
Tuesday, 23 October 2007, 11:19

ASUSTEK HAS drummed up a fair bit of interest with its EEE PC. Now, Hispazone is debuting on INQ with its review in both Spanish and English. You can choose between the two here, and if you want to see the Youtube video demoing the OS and so on, click here.

Tech-Report takes a look at AMD's reference system for DTX format and discuss the features. In all sincerity, the biggest task AMD has is to get DTX accepted in combination with the RS780 chipset. This is known to the world as the chipset that powers "Puma", the key combination for 2008 (Griffin + RS780). DX10.1 in extremely low power envelope will be the key, but it is still too early to tell.

Tim Smalley from Bit-tech joins Tech-Report in reading the crystal ball, this time with a piece about DisplayPort. This successor to DVI and contender of HDMI standards is set to go though some major challenges in 2008, but with Dell strongly behind it, we'll see what numbers will say.

Hardware Logic decided to show Danger Den's Torture Rack, quite an interesting acrylic open case for testbed purposes. We can definitely imagine how many motherboards and other components will be tortured, but I will keep my reserve when it comes to acrylic test stations. I had just too many cases of acrylic components going "poof" (breaking inside) on minimum force applied... benefit of doubt rule is upheld here, of course.

We have seen our fair share of motherboard reviews, especially ones featuring Intel X38 and P35 chipsets. Now, Phoronix came up with a review of P5E3 DeLuxe, but this review features a twist. Those penguin lovers looked at an interesting aspect of this motherboard: its embedded operating system. DeviceVM SplashTop tech is hidden on the motherboard, and this time around, we're talking about instant boot of operating system able to run FireFox and Skype... impressive capability indeed. Second review of the day was their take on KDE Four Live v0.5, project based on OpenSuSE.

Of course, we can't mention P35 chipset, current darling of overclocking community, without linking to at least one review of the board based on that chipset. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 was reviewed over at Bjorn3D.

PQI has not been an often guest on these pages, and now lads from RBmods came up with a review of S721 microSD card and card reader. Interesting stuff for those that need quick swap of files between microSD-enabled device and your computer.

Crazy shrimps were caught while making indecent acts with Zalman cooler for graphic cards. This time, VF1000LED got reviewed, over at Madshrimps.be.

Altec Lansing inMotion iMV712 speaker set showerd up at OverClocker's Club. Guys wanted to overclock it so badly, that they ended up in writing quite an interesting review.
