DRAM prices go wa-wa-wa

A perfect bottom to top things up
Tuesday, 15 January 2008, 11:14

MEMORY WATCH site DRAM Exchange has proclaimed that branded DDR2 512Mb (megabit) memory is close to hitting the not so magic $1 figure again.

The site said that at the beginning of this year, the spot price of the memory chips fell by a staggering 73 per cent to $1.70 on May the 22nd last year.

Then in June it hit $2.40 but fell to $0.92 at the end of November. It crept up to $0.96 in early December but fell again to $0.91 on the 11th of December.

This, according to DRAM Exchange, represents a perfect W. And it has a picture to prove it.

Meanwhile, giant chaebol Samsung said its Q4 net profit fell by 6.8 per cent because of the downturn in the price of memory chips. Just as well that’s not the only egg in its basket, init? If you need more memory for your own machine, it's a good time to buy. µ
