Coke closes European music site

Users may lose credits
Wednesday, 2 August 2006, 10:43
YOUTH ICON Coca-Cola has signed a deal with another big icon - Apple - to promote the iTunes music site. And Coke quietly closed its European music site -mycokemusic.com - in the process.

Subscribers to the mycokemusic site had until 31st July to burn up any existing credits by downloading more tracks. A FAQ on the site says that they've lost those credits now unless they subscribe to another music site operated by OD2 before August 31st.

Coke doesn't actually say which sites are involved in a potential swap but aggrieved users could try: - MSN Music Club; Freeserve Music Club; Tiscali Music Club and the Ministry Of Sound.

The partnership with Apple will enable Coke to give away thousands of iTunes downloads by advertising them on its drinks can.

Hopefully this promotion will prove more successful than the alliance Apple had with Pepsi-Cola which was blighted by glitches and generated much less traffic to the iTunes site than Apple had anticipated. ยต
