Lernout & Hauspie $300 million suit starts

Mysteries of the Flanders Science Park
Friday, 18 May 2007, 16:15
WE DON'T UNDERSTAND Flemish but we did go with Lord Bostoon of Barking to the Flanders Science Park while Lernout & Hauspie was still trading.

We pondered a couple of things about L&H and the Flanders Science Park. One, why was the site built on war graves? Two, why when we were there on Armistice Day, did the suits start their presentation on the stroke of 11AM?

And three, why would Intel, Microsoft and others invest all that money in what at the time appeared to have a vastly inferior product to Dragon?

Why did the hotel we stayed in have post it notes with numbers scribbled on them? Why weren't any of the phones connected? Why did Chris Green have two very large Belgian breakfasts one morning? Why did top L&H spinner Nick Spencer look close to panic most of the time and keep winking at the hacks?

We never got the answer to those questions, but a $300 million law suit is about to start, or as they say here, Beleggers willen 300 miljoen dollar terug van LHSP. If you've no Dutch, try this English page.

The beer was pretty good in the pub Lord Bostoon of Barking found across the road. ยต
