Intel launches Facebook for Sys Admins

Open Port gets your fingers doing the talking
Monday, 27 August 2007, 10:53
INTEL HAS launched a social networking service designed to connect IT professionals with its own team of spinsters.

The new site is called Open Port and it hosts blogs, discussions, papers/tech guides and polls. Users can sign up to read, comment, write their own posts and articles, either with their own name or anonymously, if they wish to avoid the wrath of their employer.

Chipzilla has tasked a number of employees to moderate and stimulate discussion, and we're already seeing some fairly interesting questions being asked.

Indeed, Intel's own Bob Duffy points out:

"I know many of the marketing reasons why Intel has launched Open Port. For one, corporate websites that push marketing messages are losing relevance, and web2.0 sites with user generated content are gaining in relevance.

"But it has yet to be proven that web2.0 and online communities are effective for corporate sites. What do you guys think? Should Intel.com do more of this, or should we focus on posting processor benchmarks, downloads, and spec information?"

So, if you fancy answering the question - preferably in the form of a blog post - get over to Intel and start networking. Socially. You cool cats. ยต
