Poll Roundup
Favourite number of cylinders Tally isn't in yet. My own opinion: 4 is for lawnmowers. 6 is for motorcycles, 8
is for cars and trucks. 12 is for British cars, since the odds of them all firing as they are supposed to is slim, you
need the extras to make up for the lost ones.
What's the best thought you've ever had?Apparently Roto is having his bot make up polls now.

Job change or Amway financial? Thread continued on into this week with a discussion about PDA's and cell phones,
as well as electronic money. Typical opinionated type crap at first "You could do this, you could do that," blah blah
blah. Then someone commented on Dr. Spinola's Grumpiness factor, which took us into an examination of his pet peeves.
Ended up with Roto and Whiteknave talking about the realm of the Ludicrous. Kind of a hand held HAL. Just whip us up a
pocket Frnht will ya Roto. Something that spews some disjointed humorous rambling, and an odd, but strangely apt link,
after entering a query.
Request for Pen Pals TCB posted an amorous e-mail he received from an admirer {shudder}. Before you think differently, it was miss directed. There was a little wondering about the letter writers motive and state of mind. A little playing with GHC and then some blather about whether or not we are sympathetic as a lot. Didn't know there was any question about that, we've got as much sympathy as a politician has morals. Then some more of this month's topic, Ikea.
Laptops. Flashy was on the lookout for a laptop for the missus. Not a whole lot of anything really interesting in the first part of the thread. Just your standard run of the mill recommendations, big screen this, nice keyboard that, a brief mention about batteries. On Friday Sunny London's weather become the topic, once again during some teasing of GHC. Whole thing was just dripping of sarcasm. Ended up with Flashy trying to set up some sort of permanent server out of his house or some such. TCB and Roto apparently did some form of tag team advice. One taking over when the other apparently had too much to drink of some such.
Idiot guide to setting up FTP site Well if there wasn't one, we got one now. The Dr. was apparently trying to get a Winders FTP box up. All I can say is, I hope Andrew doesn't try to go to rural Maine and ask for directions. Them good old boys will have him in Nova Scotia in no time. If Abbot and Costello were still around, this would be a routine. The good Dr. put out enough information about his system up that Uncle Billy can now just take over his machine and write the stories directly. Never found out if he got it running. But we had an awful good time running him in circles.
Wheel Bearings ICARUSTBD (forever to be know on the summary as Flounder, because I can't be arsed to spell out his name all the time ("Why Flounder?" {BEEELLLCCHHH}"WHY NOT!") posted a question about what should be a decent lifespan on a wheel bearing, for his ridiculously tricked out Dodge. Cupid was nice enough to chime in with his experience on Bicycle bearings. Thanks cupid, but unless you weigh about 900 kilos were not really talking the same kind of thing. (Ceramic bearings. I wish I could get ceramic bearings for Peg.) There were various suggestions, leading to a long discussion on the definition of Ft/lbs, and possible substitutes. We actually got a conversion for Rods per Hogshead. Bet there aint a javascript for that. Thanks Uri. There might have been some allegedly helpful advice. We'll wait to hear.
Wild unsubstantiated rumors dept. Promethea decided a little Royal gossip was needed. I wanted to summarize this. But it's a little on the disjointed side. About all I can say is you Brits should thank Jeff you don't have the Kennedys. Rose hung on for about 180 years, and Uncle Ted's liver may have died a decade ago, but he shows no signs of slowing down. We did learn that Mrs. Spinola is college educated, would have that that would have made her smart enough to avoid the Doctor. Then again she might be working on her Masters degree in Psychiatry.
New Guy is confused Aren't they all. Well Newbie DEHERMIT spent a good portion of Halloween popping in and being shocked. We actually ran the gamut here. We got Kars, Kats, guns, technical advice, and Lots of Ikea. The first bit was mostly introductions and the like. Eventually we dabbled briefly in the best way to rid oneself of a cat. Ended up on a new subject, handicapped parking. Actually went on for quite a bit. High volume thread of the week.
Halloween Pubbing/Kerrang Club GHC invited all the islanders for a roving Halloween party. Thread was mostly drivel, especially when Cupid showed up after a couple of bottles of cough syrup. Thermionic felt it need to be known that he wanted some mirrored contacts. That's about the most coherent statement.
Taff still, apparently, hasn't learned to keep his mouth shut now that Mrs. Welsh Bloke is a regular. WE all expect him to pop up sometime asking for a place to stay, as the doghouse is a little chilly this time of year. SGF and Wavegirl still seem to have the best technical advice. Female cave geeks, what is this world coming to.
Cross thread topic of the week would have to be Mr. And Mrs. Welsh Bloke Squabbling.
