A RESEARCH FIRM claimed Apple outsold all smart phones in the US last July bumping Crackberrys, Palms, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung off their perches.

Isuppli said the telephone accounted for 1.8 per cent of all mobile handset unit sales to US buyers in July, with the profile showing most were men, under 35, and with a four year college degree.

And presumably a fair chunk of disposable income, or money as we used to call it.

But Isuppli is pernickety about the Iphone, saying it doesn't really qualify as a smart phone because they can load third party software and the Apple thing cannot.

Nevertheless, said Isuppli, its dominance in the market is unprecedented and it's "amazing" Apple achieved the sales against entrenched competitors.

Isuppli reckons that Apple will sell 4.5 million of the units this year, and an astonishing 30 million in 2011. µ
