Coffee maker has Microsoft inside

No Java perk
Fri Nov 17 2006, 09:35
REMEMBER ALL THOSE jokes about Windows for Toasters back when the ‘Windows Everywhere' strategy was just taking off about a decade and a half ago? And how that was updated by the Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT) that went into wristwatches more recently? Well now Microsoft is inside a coffee maker.

The Melitta Smart Mill & Brew with MSN Direct can report weather forecasts, chances of rain and sunrise/sunset times as well as making the joe. MSN Direct runs an FM radio-based service dedicated to bringing information to a range of devices but coverage so far is limited to certain US and Canadian cities.

The product is manufactured by Salton and CEO Leonhard Dreimann has this to say in the press relelase: "We are pleased to be working with Microsoft and our retail partners on this fun and functional product that combines two of the things that we want most when we start our days -- coffee and weather."

The unit costs $200.
