Best Buy ready to join enthusiast bandwagon

Ask not for whom the Dell tolls, it tolls for you
Sunday, 14 December 2003, 10:10
IF YOU ARE a big national retailer, and you are caught between two trends, Dell and build your own, what do you do?

If you are Best Buy, with Dell dropping margins on one side, and the case mod crowd spurning cheap Pavillion boxes on the other, where do you turn? You provide the bling-bling set with the tools they need to make the machines they crave.

Yes, Best Buy, the stalwart big box electronics retailer is seeing the light and will be stocking parts. The company has been taking stuttery steps toward this goal for the longest time, from own branding computers to selling cases. The clues have been surfacing left and right.

With the groundwork laid, it is now going to jump in with both feet. Several manufacturers have been wooed into making Best Buy brand parts, from case fans to cold cathode tubes, and they will be coming in the not too distant future. Everything you could need should be there, most under the yellow tag of the big box store.

Oh be still my heart. ยต
