Ballmer buffs up Microsoft Office

Taking it to the ‘high end'
Friday, 29 July 2005, 09:55
THAT SOFTLY and shy and retiring CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer has told analysts that he has a cunning plan to take VoleWare up market.

At Vole's annual meeting with analysts, Ballmer mimed his plans to build a range of Microsoft products entirely for high-end corporate use. According to Reuters, in Ballmer's sights are networked servers for heavy corporate use and a more impressive Office package, which will be dubbed Office Premium.

"And when you take a look at all of the premium work that we're doing in management and security and e-mail, we think about a new premium client access license also for our Windows product," Ballmer whispered.

Ballmer said that he was ‘very bullish' about Microsoft's prospects for growth, particularly in the search engine market where Vole is squared off with Google. "If you get nothing else out of the whole day today, we are very, very, very serious and committed about driving our presence with that community, versus any and all competitors in the marketplace," Ballmer told analysts very, very, very seriously.
