AMD ready to start Intel price war

But we guess Intel is ready too
Thu Jul 13 2006, 11:21
A REPORT on Tom's Hardware Guide said that AMD is ready to do battle with its buddy Intel and make big price cuts on processors including the Athlon 64 X2.

The report, which quotes an AMD representative, suggests the firm will slash and burn its prices the minute Intel announces its Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme chips - that announcement comes this month.

Tom's suggests the price drop won't apply to Opterons or Turions, nor the low end model known as the Sempr0n.

The move could be a risky one for AMD, which has less deep pockets than Intel. We've already reported Intel has slashed and burned prices on its existing processors as it phases in its Conroe, Woodcrest and Merom next generation microprocessors. µ
