As you can see, it is a dual Woodcrest board with eight FBD slots, and a lot of GigE ports out of the front panel.
What is a little harder to tell from the picture is that the GigE ports are all on PCIe 8x daughtercards. These are simply prototypes, but the idea comes across very well. If you need networking, plug in a GigE card, infiniband, plug in a card, and so on.
Backed by a dual Woodcrest board, you can install pretty much anything you want from Windows to BSD and firewalls to games. What the G700 will really excel at is as a box resellers can rebrand by putting their faceplate on a box, loading up a piece of code, and selling it as their part.
To date this was always hampered by the problem of customisation, if you needed eight more GigE ports, you had to layout the board all over. With the G700, you buy an new card, quick easy and cheap.
You will most likely see this box in a number of places, but it is likely that you will never know what it is. While it may seem counterintuitive, that is the goal of Iwill here, simple and customisable. I think it hit the mark pretty well. µ
