Microsoft gets XML patent but faces fierce fight

Folks will appeal against the Vole
Tuesday, 10 May 2005, 12:28
A NEW ZEALAND newspaper said the country's intellectual property office has granted Microsoft a patent for XML used in word processing files.

But, said Computerworld NZ, that has provoked outrage in the Open Source community. The chairman of the group is to lodge an appeal.

And the Vole also faces a challenge from someone who claims he has "prior art" on the use of XML for word processing documents. Michael Seadon will also appeal against the patents being granted. ยต
