IRAN BLOCKED GOOGLE and other foreign sites as part of a clampdown on offensive material the Mehr news agency reported.

Hamid Shahriari, the secretary of Iran's National Council of Information proclaimed: "I can confirm these sites have been filtered," though he didn't say why, according to the agency.

Another agency, Fars, reports that the ban on Google didn't last long. An official from the state-run communications company said that, "due to an error," the Google site was "filtered" on Sunday evening. "The error was corrected and now Google and its different sites like Gmail can be used," he added.

So that's ok then. No need to nuke them yet, George.

There's more here, here and here, not necessarily all on the same subject. µ
