Digital cameras get "smile" technology

You will feel bad for a while, but then you smile
Tuesday, 4 September 2007, 08:36
BAD PHOTOGRAPHERS worried that their subjects will never grin like an idiot, can take advantage of the latest technology from Sony.

Sony's Cybershot T200 has a special sensor which scans your face to see if you are smiling before it takes the picture.

The Carl Zeiss 5X zoom camera will refuse to take a picture when you are not smiling but can be programmed to snap you the split second you are grinning. The technology will work on a group of people so that they are all smiling in the picture.

According to Gizmodo, the smile function seems to work, but it does have some difficulty doing profiles, or taking pictures that will win you an award.

People who go for the brooding image, such as rugby players and Gordon Brown, will never be seen in pictures again. Instead they will be replaced by snaps of people looking like dickheads judging by this video of the technology in action here.
