MTV snubs Apple and links to Microsoft

MUSIC VIDEO station MTV has decided not to use Apple's iTunes technology for its new online music business and is opting for Microsoft's Media Player software.

The cable station said that it will launch its Internet service, URGE, next year with the help of denizens from the Volish empire.

URGE, though late in coming, will be heavily promoted on the music channel and is likely to attract a lot of support from teenie boppers.

MTV Networks Music Group President Van Toffler said Microsoft rather than Apple was chosen because use it wanted to exploit the flexibility and ubiquity of Microsoft's Media Player software.

Toffler said that he disagreed with Apple's Steve Jobs iTunes vision of having a digital storefront for a la carte downloads.

MTV wants to create a utopian music community that keeps subscribers coming back, he said.

Media Player does not work with Snapple's eyePod, so if URGE does take off it could damage the player's successful run.
