Wired hack "made stuff up"

Gutterwatch Credibility hanging
Wed May 11 2005, 12:05
INVESTIGATORS investigating around 160 news stories by a freelance journalist on Wired News said they couldn't find 40 people quoted in the articles.

Michelle Delio, 37, of New York said she couldn't understand "why my credibility and career is now hanging solely on finding minor sources that contributed color quotes to stories I filed months and years ago," in a private email written to Wired News and exposed by the newswire AP.

She said there, "isn't one story that contains fabricated news."

Snoop, Adam Penenberg, a Wired News columnist and lecturer in journalism at New York University reckoned dozens of people quoted in articles by Delio could not be located. These people had common names and lived in big towns, he reckoned, implying that Delio had made them up. ยต
