Nvidia gets Forbes gong
FORBES MAGAZINE has named Nvidia its company of the year.
With stock growth over the past half-decade outpacing even the fruity folks in Cappuccino, the notoriously fame-obsessed Forbes reckons that Jen-Hsun has done a heck of a job with his little start-up.

The story has a good few interesting pull quotes. Writer Brian Caulfield, who trailed the Nvidia CEO, reckoned that "there is no escape" from "millions of videogame fanatics" who "accost him at airports" and conferences, claiming that the man is as recognisable as the big-busted fairy mascot his staff created.
Being Forbes, the article is rather toned-down for a non-techie audience, suggesting that "without Nvidia's graphics cards there would be no high definition web video" and no "lush digital forests" in Crysis. Funny, that - I didn't realise Nvidia accelerated Flash, and I wonder if Forbes folks have heard of, you know, ATI?
Forbes confirms that the new Nvidia high-end card will be out in the Spring, although proffers no further details. It also sets out Nvidia's strategy for fighting back against integration from rivals in the form of Larrabee from Intel and Fusion from AMD, which basically amounts to - build better, more often.
With the gaming market full of fickle buyers, Jen-Hsun is bettng that he can get the performance crown on a more regular basis, able to iterate more often that the more complex designs of rivals. An interesting strategy, although possibly the only one left on the table at this point. ยต

I'm curious. Does Nvidia make more profits with its succesful chipsets or video cards? 

If I can recall back a few generations, I could swear ATI won the speed crown for 9800 pro 256 vs fx5900 256. Then came 6800 ultra vs x850pe and they won there too. x1800 didnt quite beat 7800gt but x1900xtx was a beast and even beat the 7950gt. 

It's only been recently that nvidia has held the crown for so long and its not like they've been selling the mid range cards like hot cakes(because I hear that's where the real money is). 

That's why I have to wonder if anyone knows.
Great, my GTS (G92) seems that much more justified.

You say "the only one left" like they've exhausted a multitude of other strategies. No. NVIDIA has been out-executing it's competitors since 3dfx doing exactly this, building better chips more quickly. I'll never forget Scott Seller's quote a couple of months before 3dfx shut its doors, "I just wish the industry would slow down a little bit." It's not the only thing left for NVIDIA, it's their plan from day1. And Intel, who takes 2 years to build a new chip, ought to take note.

What an axe you guys have to grind -- that crap from Charlie D on the demise of the GPU of recent note. I'm sure you guys can find something better to do with your collective pent-up frustrations, why not choke the bishop for a little relief?
Could you possibly write a video card article without putting down NVIDIA or praising ATI? 

Search your site for "nvidiot" or "nvidiots" and you get a total of 20 hits. This doesn't speak poorly of a company that started TEN years after ATI. It speaks volumes of your "credibility". 

I'm surprised an ATI ad didn't appear next to this article. How about disclosing your revenue from ATI and their AIB partners so we know if you're cheap whores or expensive call girls?
I could be wrong, but I don't think it is. I suppose the competition is stiff.
One thing is that in my experience the masses buy on the cheap. Game developers will develop for the masses now SOC (System On a Chip) is where it is at when it comes to cheap and performance. 

nVidia should be feeling the crunch soon enough, DAAMIT might not persuade all that much but Intel has big pockets and if anyone wants to get into the accelerated graphics market it's Intel. Intel the biggest CPU powerhouse out there does not like to have 3rd party chipsets so guess nVidia has a nice little fight on his hands.

So I ain't an Intel lover or an ATI lover although if I were to choose between the two I would go ATI, red has always been my favorite colour eh! :D
