Law is not an ass

MR JUSTICE OPENSHAW knows all about computers and didn't have a Beatles moment, the Judicial Communications Office told the INQ today.

See Judge has Beatles moment over Internet.

In fact, explained the legal spinners in a formal statement, media reports that Mr Justice Openshaw didn't understand what a web site is, were taken out of context.

The judge is "entirely computer literate" and has taken notes on his own computer in court for many years, explained the office.

"Trial judges always seek to ensure that everyone in court is able to follow all of the proceedings. They will regularly ask questions - not for their own benefit - but on behalf of all those following a case in the interests of justice."

In fact, Mr Justice Openshaw "was simply clarifying the evidence presented, in an easily understandable form for all those in court."

We are happy to issue this clarification not least because we don't fancy officials from the judge's court banging us up in Pentonville for a spell of instant porridge. µ
