MADBOXPC GOT THEIR hands on something that seems to be a marketing presentation for AMD Radeon HD 3800.
This presentation confirms information we had from earlier, that HD3800 consists of two parts, 3850 and 3870. The price is now confirmed at 150 USD for the 3850 and 250 USD for 3870. However, we know that there are several partners that will bring the 3870 at 199USD.
AMD is heavily touting DirectX 10.1 API, that is going to be shipped with Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.
Performance-wise, ATI is now confirming that 3870 will be faster than 2900XT, which is going the way of the dodo. CrossfireX was also mentioned, noting that Quadfire or Quad Crossfire is the first DirectX 10.1 QuadGPU setup. We might add: the first one that works. You will be able to overclock those cards as well, of course.
Oddly, no word about double precision FP units. Marketeers probably thought that there is no reason to talk about using RV670 GPU with anti-virus programs and so on.
Anyway, the leaked slides can be found by clicking on our complementary L'INQ. µ

Nice, they were released last Thursday then?
Maybe the Inq has other info to the contrary, but the Chilean article says: "...aunque no alcanzaría a igualar el rendimiento de la HD2900XT." Or, for you who don't speak Chilean, "...even though it won't be able to reach the output of the HD2900XT."

It says later it'll take the HD3870X2 with two cores to do that.
I almost jumped on the 2900PRO bandwagon a few weeks back when they showed up retailing for $250-270 @ newegg. If the 3870 is going to come in at 250, or even possibly 199, those guys who did are going to be crying in their cheerios.

Anyone who buys any computer component must expect that the price of the same will drop significantly in the following months, weeks or even days.
No surprise there, it's always been like that. If you're and early adopter, you pay for the privilege of having what you bought before the masses. It's not the price that is important, it's being among the first.
Which is why I always wait for one to four months before making a purchase - especially in the graphics card arena.
