Low power consumption claim
Tue Sep 14 2004, 10:12
THE HARD drive division of Hitachi said it has introduced 100GB notebook drives with native Serial ATA (S-ATA) support.

The 5400RPM Travelstar also has the lowest power consumption in the notebook drive category, Hitachi claimed.

There are two models in the range. The 5K100 is for standard notebooks and the E5K100 for what Hitachi describes as more demanding data access applications.

Both versions of the drive include support for Serial ATA, but Hitachi will also sell a parallel ATA version of the drive. Both are slated to be available in quantity during the fourth quarter of this year.

They will also be offered in 40GB, 60GB and 80GB densities as well as 100GB. µ
