Hardware Roundup RAM life extended
Thu Sep 28 2006, 10:42
A WAY to extend the life of RAM modules is by providing good heat dissipation and Thermaltake Aqua RX R-1 can help achieve this, explains techpowerup.com. The RAM cooler comes in the form of a kit and as the name suggests is based on liquid cooled technology. The metal U-shape tube is well designed and comes with built-in o-rings that allow connection to a liquid distribution system without the help of Teflon tape. For $24 each, the Aqua RX R-1 is expensive and hence the price does not justify a performance only based on overclocking memory modules. It would be interesting to see how the MTBF changes with and without the cooler installed.

The latest gaming keyboard from Zboard is reviewed on rbmods.com. The KW1NAE3's appearance is along the line of Microsoft Natural keyboard, with round edges and a well organized layout that arranges the keys in three main regions. A gaming area on the left, the regular numeric keypad to the right and the alphabetic keys in the center. The gaming keys which are in fact programmable keys are colored red and grey and allow many combinations or sequences of action which would prove otherwise too complicated to perform using a regular keyboard.

Futurelooks.com has the latest Xitel HiFi-link for the nano iPod. It allows the nano to be connected to any Stereo system through line-in connections and provides user interface, mainly through the use of an infra-red remote control. The basic iPod functions are available on the card-size remote control and allows easy access to your favourite play list from a distance. The sound quality is just great because Xitel uses very good quality audio cable with low loss. The price reflects the quality of the system and for $60, you are now able to connect your nano to your seldom used HiFi system.

Meanwhile, Anandtech.com tests for us the Logitech MX revolution, a futuristic mouse that sells for $100. Logitech claims that the MX is the "World's Most Advanced Mouse" with several innovative features crammed into a small palm-sized wireless mouse. First, the scroll wheel has been replaced by a flywheel capable of high-speed traversal of documents. The other noticeable features include a one-touch web search and a unique zoom slider that uses touchless technology. The device also includes Li-Ion battery which extends further the time between recharges.

Forget about your on-board sound system and take a look at what Bluegears b-Enspirer can do for your ears, as reviewed on virtual-hideout.com. Finally another use for one of your PCI slot, the main attraction of the card is bringing DTS, like the one used in your home theater system, onto your PC. The built-in processor will do real-time 5.1 encoding of 2 or more streams into a DTS bit stream without stealing CPU cycles. The card also supports professional features which include Dolby modes and a set of reverberation environments that will match your speakers setup to the room they are in. µ
