However, the Cappuccino outfit said that the batteries were not a safety risk and would not catch fire like other leading brands.
The worst that can happen with an Apple battery is that the thing "will not charge when it is plugged into an outlet". It is not clear if the battery will charge if it is plugged into anything else, such as a banjo, but Apple seemed to imply that there were other methods of charging a battery that we couldn't think of.
Apple told Reuters that the problem was all in the software and it had released a new patch to improve battery performance. If that didn't work, then Apple will replace the battery even if it is out of warranty.
The affected batteries are in MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks sold worldwide from February 2006 and April 2007, Apple said.
