Abit ready with single, dual Opteron boards

One a ULi and one a Via. An Nforce on the way
Sunday, 12 December 2004, 18:41
TAIWANESE COMPANY Abit has kindly sent us a single workstation board, the Athlon 64 939 pin SV-1A, and a dual board, the SU-2S, which supports two 940 pin Opterons and uses a combo of ULI M1653 and and AMD 8131 support sets.

We've had these for two weeks now, but as we're finding it hard to find an Opteron or two to plug into them, the best we can do so far is to provide some high res pictures and some additional details of the boards.

Abit hasn't been known for its server and workstation products in the past, but its strategy now appears to be that really high end enthusiasts might get a kick out of a top end board.

The SV1A has four 184 pin DIMM slots supporting DDR 400/33 up to 8GB, unbuffered, onboard ATI Rage XL 8MB, four channel Serial ATA II as default, and two channel Serial ATA as default, and includes a Broadcom 5704 dual Gigabit Ethernet controller.

The SU-2S supports up to 16GB of ECC DDR 400/33 memory, and also supports eight channel Serial ATA II, has two Broadcom ports, an optional SO-DIMM connector, and ATI Rage XL with a default of 8MB. And the ALI/ULI chipset of course.

We hear tell that Abit will be out of the door soon with a dual Nforce Opteron board, but if you're expecting it before Yule, we'd say forget that.

Sorry we can't test these for you, but we seem to be having a bit of a local shortage of AMD CPUs here right now. µ
