Apple slaps DMCA notice on OSx86 project

A hack too far
Fri Feb 17 2006, 08:48
JOBS' MOB lawyers have swooped on to a message board run by the OSx86 project which is geared to those interested in using the Apple OS X onto x86 hardware.

Although most of the www.osx86project.org site is still working, the vital notice board was shut down.

According to the site administrators, here, the forum will be unavailible while the group evaluates the DMCA notice and removes things that Apple does not like.

Despite its claims that the sites is 'fully compliant' with the DMCA, it has been sailing close to the wind lately.

Apple does not want OS X to work properly on non-Apple machines and therefore is not going to want people tinkering to allow that to happen. Just before the site went down a person posted a working guide for installing 10.4.4 from the System restore DVD, which is widely seen as a hack too far for the board. ยต
