LG dumps hybrid Blu-ray, HD plans

Perry vale of tears
Tue Aug 01 2006, 11:00
LG HAS SCRAPPED plans for a hybrid Blue-ray/HD-DVD player that was planned for launch at the end of this year.

According to Bob Perry, VP of LG sales and channel marketing, hybrid product has been canned. Bob continued: "LG remains part of the Blu-ray camp and will make a product announcement later in the year". Perry was speaking on product plans at the company's '2006 Summer Line Show' this week in New York.

This follows previous announcements in March by the same Bob Perry, who announced that LG had dropped plans for a Blu-ray-only device, to commence development of the hybrid-player. Samsung, a significant competitor of LG, are still maintaining development of a hybrid drive. µ
