Intel invents beer-proof laptop

INQ hacks rejoice
Wed Oct 24 2007, 18:34

MAKER of chips and bits, Intel has developed a laptop keyboard which is beer, coffee, water, and fag ash proof.

According to TVNZ Chipzilla boffins have developed a new type of keyboard that allows air to be drawn from above, but prevents liquids from passing through.

Normally sealing a laptop keyboard from liquids will block vital air inlets meaning the laptop could overheat and blow up like a Sony battery.

Apparently the new Intel keyboard is made from a semi-porous material that Chipzilla boffins have grown in a test tube. The keyboard can be sealed and the machine will not overheat

In short, if you tip coffee, beer, or the spirits of your choice over your laptop the thing will still work.

Chipzilla has also not said when lappies sporting the new keyboards will hit the shops. µ

Too Late....

I think if it is for CMB (I forgot, something that intel say want to standardize laptop componen) then maybe it's a breakthough. Because almost all vendor have implement their propertary keyboard design that is water proof. At least in the business line. heeheehe.

Too late!

My old Gateway M675 must already have one of these spill-proof keyboards. I spilled half a glass of Carnation Instant Breakfast right over the top left quarter of the keyboard a few weeks ago (Note: The CPU and video card are both in this area) and I turned it off, and when I turned it back on a little later, it worked perfectly!

Or maybe I'm just lucky this time that my... er... intelligence... didn't pay off in the form of me having to buy a new laptop :-)

... Maybe I should throw the laptop in the wash to get all of that dried chocolatey milkey stuff out of the cooler fins. If my cell phone (Moto RAZR) is any indication, it'll come outta the washer, then the dryer, in perfect working order! Ha ha! My gadgets have nine lives!

I've learned my lessons. They will do you readers some good too. They are as follows:

1. Empty ALL of your pockets before you wash your pants (like your mother always told you to.)
2. Don't have an open drink container anywhere within reach of a rigorous game of TFC.

feat

The new thing is that it lets air through and allows cooling but does not let water through.

Of course that's technology used in shoes and coats already but still, I'm guessing this works better in the air-passing-through department.

Reinvention?

Another "groundbreaking, innovative technology" from Intel?

Oh, wait a second, isn't this a re-invention of Gore-tex?
