E6700 gives X6800 a run for its money

Hardware Roundup Second-in-line aspires to throne

GAMEPC tests one more Conroe. The E6700 is decorticated. This model is cloced at 2.66GHz with a full 4MB L2 shared cache and is ranked second to the X6800 model while costing half its price. GamePC says that it has no AMD competitors as the 5000+ is cheaper and almost non-present and the FX6x is much more expensive. The CPU clocks easily to 3.5GHz, performs like hell, consumes less power than ever before, creates less heat and is less expensive than AMD's best. GamePC says that it will soon be impossible to recommend dual core A64. How times change.

Hardwaresecrets pays tribute to the Zboard Gaming Keyboard. The keyboard is a modular one and is adapted to FPS playing mainly although not specifically - strategy fanatics will also find salvation here. You will probably have to change your mouse if it is a PS2, but the sheer versatility of this keyboard will make some players want for more. Particularly impressive is how you could swap keysets which means that they would fit pretty much everyone.

Lads at Extremetech repors on the Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser mouse. A wonderful piece of technology. The mouse is radically different from its predecessors with new wheels, new buttons and a design that leaves no one unfazed. The wheel has two modes, line by line or free spinning. Believe me or not, but this single feature on its own makes it my favourite. Why no one came forward with this kind of paradigm shift? It deserves the 9/10 rating and gets the nickname million dollar mouse. Danger mouse anyone?

Bigbruin and co test the Coolmax CTG-1000 1kW ATX power Supply. Certainly one of the hotter PSUs out there. From the outside, it looks like an industrial grade model with a silver finish and traditional one-fan design. But there's more than that in the beast's gut. It has a whopping 19 connectors - BB says that that's not enough - and weighs a full 3.5Kg. BTW, for some reasons, the gross weight of the PSU according to Bigbruin is 14.6Kg which seems to be quite a lot. Another feature that pops out is the ability to remotely control the PSU.

Printed Magazine PC Pro reports on the Acer Aspire iDea 500 which by the looks of it is one of the best Media centre PC currently available for your hard-earned money. It costs less than £700+VAT but comes loaded. A Core Duo processor with 1GB memory, a 250GB HDD, a DVD writer, twin Digital RV tuners and more IOs than you could possibly plug your fingers in. Of course, the design of the slim desktop case is closer that of a Hifi component than that of a computer. You will also love the remote control and the keyboard with a smallish touchpad instead of the keypad.

ITreviews reports on the MSI NX7950GX2-T2D1GE video card. That's the highest performing graphics card on the market, even though there's actually two GPU in there. You already know the specs by heart by now. Two 7950, two DVI ports, Dual slot format, 1GB memory, KingKong game, a Video out connector and performance to die for. Pricewise, it is not for the faint hearted. Plug two in your computer and you get something that can match an industrial grade flight simulator. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
