PSUs, coolers and casings tested

The Original HW Roundup

MVE tech reviews the new Zalman ZM460-APS Noiseless Power Supply. It's a 460W PSU for both AMD and Intel Platforms. It does come with a 120mm fan just in case temperatures rise too much. It is 20-pin and 24-pin compatible, has a 4+4 pin CPU power connector, is SLI compatible - but not certified - and c0mes with a black laquered finish. MVKTech gives it their editor's choice for combining power, efficiency and silence.

Bit tech tests the Antec P180 low noise case, a perfect complement for the above PSU. Looks like a mini fridge according to the reviewer. It is very heavy and very wellbuilt. You get a 120mm Antec Tri-Cool fan - plus two more inside - and the three panels that make the sides and front of the casing are quite devoid of anything superfluous. Little extras come in handy and while the price is at the higher end and you can you will be hard pressed to get something classier and more silent.

Designtechnica checks the Logitech MX3100 keyboard/mouse wireless combo. No left handed option and the built in mouse battery might make some sigh but for the rest, there is nothing much to complain. Exceptional finish, above average integration and the superb MX1000 award winning mouse make this bundle stand almost head and shoulders above the rest and this one as well gets an Editor's choice.

Gordon Laing from Camera Labs takes a look at the Panasonic DMC FZ30. The Japanese giant brings in an eight megapixels, 12x optical zoom, Digital camera with some SLR like features. It also comes with Panasonic's own Optical Image Stabiliser facility. Gordon compares it to its closest rivals, the Fujifilm S9500/S9000, the Sony R1 and the EOS350D. It holds its own against the competition, although you would probably have to compare each of them on their very own abilities.

DriverHeaven brings the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro to our readers. It has three very long heatpipes to transfer the heat from the base to the 42 aluminium cooling fins. It is a silent 92mm fan and some rubber shock-absorbing mountings. MX-1 thermal compound has been pre-applied to the base and this might be something you won't like. Got compared to the stock cooler, the Vapochill Micro ULN and the Noiseblocker Cool Scraper.

The Sytrin KuFormula VF1 plus gets analysed at Phoronix. It is a graphics card cooler consisting of a fan speed controller, eight VGA RAMheatsinks, PCI holder, heat sink module and more accessories than what you would expect. At the end of the day, the Sytrin provides with an astonishing set of figures, 12 degrees drop in core temperature as compared to stock coolers. It even beats the Arctic Cooler Silencer 1 rev 2 and is even better than the VF700. A third editor choice in this series. µ
