No future in the net nor spodcasts, man reckons

Dashed Interweb, pesky fangled thing
Mon Mar 19 2007, 12:28
THE EDITOR of UK newspaper The Independent has told the Grauniad no one listens to spodcasts and his paper won't invest wildly in the world wide web.

Simon Kelner said he prefers other newspapers like the Grauniad, the Jellygraph and the Times to be pioneers. He said that it's sheer madness to not promote the value of print and is "contemptuous" about spodcasts.

But, he claimed, the Indie's own website makes a profit. Few other newspaper websites can say that, he said.

Perhaps Kelner should have a dekko at a book we've just been sent for review, Clear Blogging , by journo Bob Walsh, and in particular chapter 10 "Reporters fire Newspapers" which describes a Mike Magee as "one of the first mainstream reporters to go over the wire" and Tom Foremski who chucked his job at the Financial Times to start his blog at Silicon Valley Watcher . ยต
