An atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support - Fulton Sheen
MORE EVIDENCE, WERE IT NEEDED, of the forthcoming apocalypse comes in the form of the arrest of a 17 year-old Dutch bloke for nicking imaginary furniture from someone else's imaginary room in social inadequate networking site Habbo Hotel.
The miscreant stands accused of stealing €4,000 worth of virtual furniture and five 15 year-olds are also assisting the real police with their inquiries after they were caught moving the stolen furniture into their own Habbo rooms.
The teens convinced other Habbo users to hand over their login details to gain access to the rooms where the furniture - bought with real money - almost existed, then virtually picked it up and pretended to move it to their own imaginary rooms.
Virtually six million losers in more than 30 countries play Habbo Hotel each month. Philosophers around the world are even now arguing over the existentialist implications of the heist. µ

CAT5 cable! Wake up Ted! The new age of CAT6 is upon us. You're living life like it's 2005 or something. Get with the times.
Pretty soon people will be charged for not following the rules on the playground too I suppose.
I figure that if thieves are going into cyberspace to steal cyber property, then there will be less real property stolen. I wonder if a cyber jail sentence will be handed down?

Some people need to get a real life and not one that consists of a cat5 cable and a modem.
ahahahahahaha...people spend real money on that crap...wow...
People actually paid real Ca$h for virtual furniture, they must be really really stupid.

I can only hope that these people are banned from breeding as they could severely pollute the Gene pool.

Andy
I pity the judge and lawyer that have to pretend too now, forced to be game characters.

Dude you dont just get locked up for that, you get rogered senseless in jail as well, and believe me that wont be a "virtual" rogering either :)

I wonder how much a virtual Lamborghini would cost me! :P
I decided to disconnect my cognitive functions for a moment and have a look at this marvelous, promising weapon of massive idiotic quotient increase. Here what they say at time of writing:

"SORRY!!! MAINTENANCE BREAK!
In order to ensure an uninterrupted service environment, Habbo is carrying out maintenance operations on its online services [...]"

Can anyone explain to me how to maintain an uninterrupted service while, err, interrupting it? Daamit, I'm already getting stupid. Guess I'm ready for opening an account there.

As soon as it get back to an uninterrupted state.
I bet a Lambo would virtually cost an arm and a leg.
I hope he gets the chair for it.
then the only punishment they should get is that they will be virtually jailed.. that is when they login to the system, they'll be automatically sent to a page with picture of steel bars...
Great ! Another court case. Another assembly of worthless virtual pixels treated as if they were as important as an actual object.
We're making another step toward the awakening of the Tax Man to the fact that all this virtual property is not in any way covered by a tax.
Can you imagine his face when he realizes that ? Gasp !
Keep this up and we will all find a new form to fill in in our all-to-real income tax declarations, a form dedicated to controlling just how much virtual stuff we sold and defining how much additional profit the government will take because of it.
I just wonder how much longer it will take.
Do you really think the shares you buy and sell on a stock market or even the cash in your bank account - are more real? They're also a bunch of digits on some computer somewhere.

If enough people believe some thing is valuable then it becomes so. Whether it is a rare stamp or a bunch of digits in a computer.

Ignoring this truth just leads to tragic consequences. As far as I know the Chinese guy who murdered the person who stole his sword only did so after he tried to get the local police to take action, but failed (some reports even say they laughed at him). So with no other options for redress he took matters into his own hands. While that's still wrong it should not be surprising.

If the police had taken action (arrested the thief for investigations etc) both men could still be alive today.

The sword was worth about 460 pounds (7200 yuan) on the market and might have been worth significantly more to him since he wasn't interested in selling it. I believe 7200 yuan buys you a lot in China. 460 pounds buys you maybe 800 meals where I live. That's a lot of stolen lunch money. People have been killed for far less.
Hopefully the Virtual gas for that Lambo would be cheaper, and my virtual paycheck would be more! LOL
