Nintendo reports huge profit jump

Console round-up While EA posts loss
Wednesday, 30 July 2008, 18:41

NINTENDO HAS reported a 34 per cent jump in profits for the April-June quarter, year-on-year.

Nintendo sold 5.1 million Wiis worldwide – up from 3.4 million units in the same period last year. To date, 29.6 million Wiis have been sold worldwide.

DS sales, were down 40,000 compared to last year, with 6.94 million sold during the quarter but with worldwide sales now at 77.54 million the market is a little saturated.

EA on the other hand, has posted a loss - its loss for the quarter totaled $95 million, compared with a loss of $132 million, or 42 cents a share, a year earlier.

Xbox 360
Xbox-scene has posted a picture of the new Xbox 360 Opus motherboard.

This is intended for use in the old dead RROD'd Xbox systems returned to MS.

According to Microsoft's Don Mattrick after speaking to Eurogamer, Xbox 360 software will outperform PS3 software in the next three years and beyond. He would say that.

The new dashboard set to replace the aging interface has been leaked on to the web - and has been installed and used on modded consoles.

PS3/PSP
Similarly to Nintendo, Sony has also released console sales numbers.

The company has announced that worldwide sales of the Playstation 3 reached 1.56 million consoles during the first quarter of 2008, April – June, doubling the previous year's efforts.

Hackers have released a homebrew version of Pong for the PS3 - downloadable here.

Another week another firmware update for the PS3 - this time to version 2.42.

Wii/DS
Apparently storage space is now a mainstream problem for the Wii.

"We have a consumer base who loves Virtual Console. We have a user-base who really is enjoying WiiWare content. So for us really our challenge really is how do we satisfy all these consumers who are loving all of the product we make available on a download basis?" Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime told MTV Multiplayer.

This comes only weeks after Nintendo was quoted as saying that extra storage was only needed by Otaku.

The Iphone NES emulator has apparently now added accelerometer support.

Eurogamer has the usual Virtual Console round-up here. µ

No doubt

If EA didn't crap out crappier games like Tiger 08 on the PC which tops out with a resoultion of 1650 and without xbox pad functions, maybe they wouldn't be doing so badly.

XBOX360 outperforms PS3

Best laugh I had today, quote:"Xbox 360 software will outperform PS3 software in the next three years ".

Hang On!!

Looking at that pic for the new 360 motherboard I thought MS would have had the new 65nm GPU out by now to install it into the new SKU's.

Talk about being slow at E3 and now getting your hardware together this will still cause RRoD's because it's the GPU thats the cause of it all.

Boycott

Glad to see my boycott on EA finally paying off. Tried playing one to many shovel-ware games of theirs and got fed up. It's obvious they'll do anything to make a dime and could give a rip about their customers. They can look elsewhere for that dime, they won't be getting it from me.
