Texas Instruments tops forecasts

Still first for phone components

A HEALTHY market for mobile phone components helped Texas Instruments raise its Q2 2006 operating profit, the manufacturer revealed yesterday (Monday).

A large part of its of $2.39 billion income came from selling its sensors business to private equity groups. Without that sale it would only have received around $0.739 billion.

Texas Instruments — which is still the top maker of chips for mobile phones - recorded revenues slightly above what the analysts had been predicted. $3.7 billion for Q2 2006 as opposed to the predicted $3.68 billion. Plus its revenues have risen by 24 percent compared to the same quarter last year (2005).

So that's one supplier that Chipzilla has failed to oust from its niche. ยต
