Nvidia up over iPod rumour

But chip stocks decline otherwise
Tue Jul 18 2006, 17:42
INTEL (tick: INTC) formally launches its Montecito Itanium in an hour or so, but that hasn't stemmed its share decline on Wall Street. Its price stands at $17.68 at press time, down 16 cents.

AMD doesn't have to worry about the Itanium, but its price fell by 35 cents and stood at $20.57, a decline from its 52 week high in March of $42.70.

ATI (ATYT) fell by 19 cents to $15.15, although the news that Intel won't be using its chipsets for motherboards will, we estimate, have little effect on its overall revenues.

Nvidia (NVDA) bucked the chip trend - it's up 15 cents to $17.96 after an analyst from American Tech Research recommended a buy. He reckons Nvidia chips could be used in future iPods.

Broadcom (BRCM) was down 50 cents in the dumps to stand at $26.87 - Transmeta (TMTA) stands at $1.28.

Hallucinogenic stock Google (GOOG) behaved like a crazy, it was down $4.92 to $402.97. Microsoft (MSFT) was up 21 cents to $22.69 after it announced it had bought Winternals Software.

Rambus (RMBS) fell $1.52 to $20.08. µ
