A US outfit is making new military grade cases for iPods which one hardware site claims can withstand "a RPG or mortar shell explosion 85 per cent of the time".

We are not sure how Gizmo magazine managed to find the firepower to test its claim in favour of YoTank's ruggedised cases. We hope that no hacks were injured discovering that 15 per cent of the time it will let a bullet through.

The iTank cases are machined from solid aluminium and, despite the claim from Gizmo, are designed for those whose iPods tend to get destroyed during snowboarding, skateboarding and rock climbing.

According to YoTank ,they can handle being dropped from a great height and all the usual things that happen to iPod users. We assume this means being run over by a car when you are not paying attention while walking down the street.

Armour plating your iPod will set you back by $35-$75. So far there is a version for the iPod Mini, Nano, and the Video and the Creative Zen Vision:M. The outfit plans to expand to other types of products such as mobiles. More here. ยต
