Remember, son, many a good story has been ruined by over verification - James Gordon Bennett
GOOGLE FOUNDER Sergey Brin's investment in his wife's genome-screening company has uncovered the fact he has a genetic mutation linked to Parkinson's disease.
Writing in his bog, Brin reveales that the genome scan of his saliva from 23andMe told him he has a mutation on the LRRK2 gene, a variation called G2019S, which ups the risk for Parkinson's in some families. His mum already has it, he said.
His wife asked him to look up G2019S in the raw data and he thought it would be a laugh.
He said that the exact implications of this are not entirely clear, other than he has a markedly higher chance of developing Parkinson's in his lifetime than the average person.
Brin has ploughed cash into his wife's genetic screening company 23andMe despite the fact that New York State health authorities have sent letters to three dozen DNA-screening companies informing them that it's illegal to offer medical tests in the state without a license. µ

With all the cash that he has, it would appear that a cure for Parkinson's is on them horizon...
The company is actually based in New York. 23andme was profiled in Discover managzine with a couple other firms offering the same kind of service.

They send you a swab thing in the mail and you access your results through their website. I'm not sure what business it is of the State of New York if the companies are based in California.

As with police officers and speeders, I think they can choose not to prosecute.(just my opinion, as I said in the title, I'm not a lawyer) I think rather than sending them letters and threatening to prosecute, they should ask 23andMe to voluntarily reveal it's practices and how it's technology works, as well as allowing the government to cross-check their results.

Have them do it under oath, and THEN make a decision as to how to proceed. Laws were made to protect the populace, so enforcing laws that do more harm than good is an indication of a problem in the system.
