Kentsfield brought forward to 1st, Clovertown stays on 13th

Reviews to hit two weeks earlier

A LITTLE BIRD told us that the NDA expiry date for Intel Core 2 Extreme QC6700 has been brought forward by whole two weeks. Other birds were chirping the same song, describing the arrival of QC6700 CPUs "as imminent".

The new date for reviews is set at November the first, in many European countries celebrated as All Saints day. It seems that AMD's upcoming 4x4 briefings starting tomorrow had an enlightening effect on Intel, which is more than ready with its quad-core line-up. Sadly, AMD didn't invite us (yet) for a 4x4 chit-chat.

Price is set at $999 for this dual-dice CPU and retail package spots a new cooler, which is needed to dissipate the 120W+ of heat from the processor package. However, new 4x4 systems will have almost the double, so expect that Blue powerpointery will bash Green powerpointery over power efficiency.

Intel partners are already organising briefs and launch events for gaming machines and workstations powered by Core 2 Extreme on the new date, while launch events featuring Xeon 5300 (Clovertown, ie. Kentsfield for business) are still set to go on November 13th and 14th. µ
