Microsoft buys Lionhead

Fable's happy ending?
Fri Apr 07 2006, 12:48
SOFTWARE giant Microsoft has just bought the British games outfit Lionhead.

No-one is saying how much Steve Ballmer paid for the company, which is famous for developing the "Fable" role-playing games for its Xbox video-game consoles.

Vole said that Lionhead would continue to develop games exclusively for its Xbox consoles and Windows operating system.

Some are seeing the purchase as a move by Vole to make sure that it has enough software in place for its XBox 360 when Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Revolution consoles enter the market.
