AN ALLIANCE of Japanese telly, music and film companies has had a pop at Youtube saying the outfit was not doing enough to rid the site of cartoons and other clips that infringe on copyrights.

It doubted that Youtube's automatic video recognition and purging system being developed would be reliable or quick enough to solve the problem.

Spokesman for the alliance, composer Hideki Matsutake told the Washington Post that Youtube had to be switched off and the illegal clips purged.

He said that he wanted them them to reset the service. There was no middle ground and he demanded that all copyrighted material be removed immediately.

Youtube is jolly popular in Japan and clips from TV and the music industry are rampant on t'site.
