Sapphire puts GDDR4 memory on a 512MB card

Computex 007 Overclockers delight

ONE OF THE BIG disapointments on first batch of graphics cards with R600 chip was the fact that ATI's boards had same Hynix memory that Nvidia was using for its lowest-cost 8800, the 8800GTS 320MB.

With the first wave of cards being distributed into the hands of OEMs and early adopters, custom products have begun to appear here in Taipei. Sapphire decided to do nothing less than putting the very same GDDR4 memory that can be found on X1950XTX graphics cards.

Top-notch GDDR-4 memory on a card with half the memory...for a small price premium, of course.

So, it seems that soon, we'll have a wave of 1GB and 512MB cards using GDDR-4 memory. Then again, everything could change if DAAMIT applies some pressure. µ
