Butler gets the bullet, so it's Axed Jeeves

No more egg fingers

THE OBSEQUIOUS internet figure who irons your newspaper in the morning for you after he's brought you your egg fingers is getting the bullet. Or perhaps he's getting the axe. Agatha Christie would know.

The Wall Street Journal said that Jeeves will be dropped as the mascot for a search engine which was bought by IAO Interactive.

A rep for Axe Jeeves said that the manservant figure would be dropped because it causes a certain je ne sais quoi effect when people find the butler.

The Journal quoted CEO Barry Diller as saying that he'd nothing "personal" against the manservant, who he described as the "fat butler".

Few people employ butlers these days in Britain, you may be astonished to learn. But Google won't bring you egg fingers, nor will they iron your newspaper for you in the morning. µ
