Broadcom to buy ATI TV division

For a song, not a video
Fri Aug 01 2008, 18:40

REMEMBER THE LOSS AMD took on its TV division? Well, that was just paving the way for Broadcom to buy it.

Yeah, Broadcom is getting the best TV chip division in the world for a song, more power to them.

You kind of wonder why AMD didn't sell this off a while ago when it worth a lot more and companies actually wanted it. Live and learn. ยต

Dubious...

I don't know guys...I'm dubious on this topic. Hopefully there is a talented team of people who will take this over because Broadcom is just as bad at drivers as nvidia is.

Hang on, I see a pattern..

Anything about Nvidia, Charlie says it's rubbish, anything about Ati, it's wonderful...

It's sad really...

Ati's marketshare is what 30%, NVidia's 70% it's that way because NVidia clearly make better products.

WTF, drashek?

drashek, what are you babbling about?
You've bombarded every articles with your gibberish nonsense.

Anyway why sell the ATi TV division? Hasn't it generates revenue, or did AMD badly need cash?

Curious

Funny how many journalist and sites herald ATI's video as so wonderful yet any customer I ever hear about it says they aren't so positive at all, I wonder if broadcom also acquires their PR department.

At this rate

there won't be a DAAMMIT worth a tinker's d*mn left. They'd better be praying for fat margins on the 48xx series. Unfortunately, from what I've heard from friends in the SJ area, they priced it to move in a desperate bid to rebuild market share. A flopping CPU division and the lack of profit (and still not "fastest single card" for gaming graphics) from the graphics division. DAAMMIT better start praying.
