Tangosol releases Coherence server glue software

Death Detection sniffs out apathetic CPUs
Fri Sep 20 2002, 11:14
SOFTWARE FIRM Tangosol said it has released version 1.2.1 of its distributed server cache software, Coherence.

The company said the software will allow large firms to scale apps to multiple servers, either to increase performance or for better availability.

Tangosol also claims the software will allow clustering for servers in different places, useful for disaster recovery.

The Java software can be used for both low end and high end servers, the firm said, while the latest version improves clustering support. It does this by letting administrators squeeze the cluster comms protocol, even, it claims, on low bandwidth networks.

Incoherence has a function called Death Detection which will sniff out servers that have either shuffled off their mortal coils or are showing clear signs of apathy.

The firm is offering free evaluation software at its Web site, which you can find here.

The software is licensed on a CPU basis, but is free of charge for research and development purposes.

The firm is also offering source code for its HTTP session replication modules for IBM Websphere 4, Apache Tomcat 4, Bea's Weblogic 7 and Servlet 2.3 compliant application servers, it said. µ
