SANDISK MADE certain sacrifices in order to get its solid state drives (SSD) to market, as we previously wrote here. The move has now been made and this new generation of storage drive has arrived.

OEMs are now starting to receive their first devices and the introduction of notebooks with SSDs is just around the corner.

Manufacturing advances have brought the cost of a 32GB device down from 600 dollars to closer to 350 dollars, which means we're drawing close to 10 dollars a Gigabyte.

Larger, 64GB drives will appear in the second half of this year. Best part is, Sandisk now offers both 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch devices, so the design is compliant with both subnotebook and classic notebook models.

While 32GB may not be enough for decent multimedia usage, the resiliance to impact of the non-mechanical storage medium makes it attractive to us. µ
