The prototype machine is 1.1 inches thick and Sharp claims that it is the thinnest, lightest, lowest energy-consuming LCD display in the world. The beast weighs 25 kg which is about half that of average LCD panel TVs.
According to Reuters, Sharp was showing off in a Tokyo museum how the new panels could be easily hung on walls or placed on thin poles for an arty floating effect.
Apparently the picture was pretty good too, but Sharp was not saying anything about that.
Sharp's President Mikio Katayama said bits of the prototypes such as improvements in materials, colour filters and backlight technology will be introduced gradually in Sharp's upcoming products. Most of them will see the light of day by March 2010, he said. µ
