Sony Ericsson lines up house DJs for tennis in the dark

Are they tripping?

SONY ERICSSON has announced the launch in the US of its latest whacky invention, "night tennis" - kind of a cross between pillheads waving around glowsticks in the dark and, er, tennis.

Two top notch house DJs have been confirmed to perform sets for the launch - which takes place in Miama at The Ice Palace Film Studios later this month - Paul Oakenfold and Masters At Work.

The game itself will be held with UV lighting as the only light source. The eight players that take to the court will all be wearing neon whites, in fact, pretty much everything is UV reactive: the court itself, the net, the balls and the clothes.

Paul Oakenfold was hunted down by Sony Ericsson spinsters to say something for the press release. He's as confused as we are. "I'm very intrigued by the whole night tennis concept," he said. "Who would have expected sport and electronic culture to combine in this way?" I don't know, Paul, but I think I'll stick with Namco's Smash Court Tennis. Maybe in the dark. Wearing neon clothes.

If you want to read some more about "night tennis" then we suggest you don't go here, but here instead. µ
