Finnish city abandons Linux, Open Office plans

Turku to move to XP
Thursday, 26 August 2004, 12:44
TURKU, the second largest city in Finland, has dropped its plan to switch from the Windows OS and application software to Open Office and Linux.

That comes after three years of planning, according to a Finnish wire.

The wire said that Turku will now switch to Windows XP and to Windows Server 2003 for the several thousand workstations in use.

It will migrate the existing NT servers and workstations to the newer Windows product in a phased manner.

The reason appears to be user opposition to the switch.

The story, in Finnish, is here. ยต
