Samsung profit slumps on DRAM sales

Chips down as memory flags
Friday, 13 July 2007, 15:24
KOREAN GIANT Samsung turned in operating profits in its second quarter of $993 million but the continuing price slump in the prices of DRAM chips meant it's the worst profit since the end of Q4 2001.

As we've reported throughout the year, DRAM sales are such that some chips are being sold at less, or close to the amount it costs to make them.

There's continuing oversupply in the market, said Samsung, which otherwise performed well in the other sectors it plays in. While sales of NAND memory and LCD panels were comparativly healthy, its mobile business didn't do too well either. ยต
